To begin working towards the metric objectives, the
following is the strategy:
S1. Produce a set of well-defined metrics on all
RC types.
Use the existing literature to collect a
candidate set of metric definitions and interpretations;
Extend and modify the candidate set to
create a pool of metric definitions.
S2. Provide interpretations that relate the
metrics to quality or reusability.
Use the technique defined here in to refine
the interpretation and select the final metric set.
S3. Provide for each metric a mechanism for
collection, including
identification of automatically computable
metrics;
processes for data collection and data
validation for non-automatically computable metrics; and
a discussion of the difficulty and
reliability of collection.
S4. Discuss the potential benefits and
liabilities of use of the metrics in terms of their interpretation, possible
reliability, and the possible difficulty of collection.
